Meghan is a PhD student in Geophysics at Oregon State University. She specializes in glaciology– how glaciers flow, fracture, and their role in Earth’s climate system.
Following a summer work position in the Canadian High Arctic, she became curious about all aspects of the polar regions— from glaciers and sea ice to tiny Arctic plants. She continued to complete a Master’s degree at the University of Calgary, where she used historical photographs to reconstruct the history of a surge-type glacier in the St. Elias Mountains of British Columbia, Canada. Her current work focuses on an ice shelf in Antarctica, using seismology, radar, remote sensing, and modeling to explore how ice fractures, calves, and interacts with its surrounding ocean. Adjacent to her research interests, she hopes to empower young folks to find and follow their passions as a Program Coordinator and Instructor with Inspiring Girls Expeditions.
