Biography

Val Stanley oversees the Antarctic Core Collection at Oregon State University – the world’s largest collection of seafloor sediment samples from the Southern Ocean. Val’s interest in curation of geologic samples began in 2009 when she was hired as a technician at LacCore, the National Lacustrine Core Storage Facility. She has over five years of experience working with state geologic surveys, mapping glacial features related to the advance and retreat of the Laurentide Ice Sheet in MN as well as managing the drill core repository of WI. Her interests include: improving discoverability, accessibility, and interoperability for physical samples, data preservation and rescue techniques, applications of cyberinfrastructure for geoscience, and geospatial data visualization technologies.
